FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the rules for the event?
The official event rules document can be found on the Entries page.
Does the peloton split?
Yes, splitting the peloton at various points each day into a faster and slower group was introduced to the event in 2025. There are still points where, for rider safety, we will be riding in one group.
How fast does the peloton go?
Average speeds vary depending on the day, with weather and the route being the main factors. Group 1 averages around 27 kmph, and group 2 between 23 kmph and 25 kmph
Do I need to carry spares?
No, we have service vehicles following each group that carry spares and will be on hand to fix any mechanical problems. Costs for parts will apply and can be settled directly with the service provider.
What happens if I get a puncture?
The service vehicle will stop, fix your puncture, and take you back to the front of your group. Or you can choose to ride back to the group with the help of a ride captain.
Can I store spare clothing?
Please bring a labelled musette to put in the lead car for your group.
What meals are included?
Lunches and the Gala dinner is included in the entry fee. Please check other dinner options in the entry process and how to add meals if you have a non-riding partner.
Do I have to race?
None of the “race sections” need to be raced, you’ll always find a friendly ride captain managing the “gruppetto” at the back of the group.
What is provided at the water tables?
We are very proud of the range and quality of the snacks and Hazel’s home-made goodies at our water tables.
Can my family join me, even if they aren’t riding?
Yes, please bring your family, we look forward to meeting them. Make sure you book dinner tickets for them when you enter.
What does protected peloton riding mean?
It means that we have a traffic officer driving at the head of the peloton who moves oncoming vehicles onto the shoulder of their side of the road, while the Think Bike marshals escort cars past the peloton when it’s safe. To make sure that this process operates safely and smoothly, riders are asked to ride two up and NOT pass the lead car.
Can I enter if I’ve never ridden in a peloton before?
Yes, please let one of the ride captains know, and they’ll give you some pointers and make sure that you get settled in.
What happens if I can’t keep up with the peloton?
With the introduction of two groups, you will be able to drop back to the second group, or a ride captain will assist you to stay with the group.
How many stops/water tables are there each day?
There is a daily “nature break” stop within an hour of the start, a tea stop, a lunch stop, and, depending on the needs of the group, a stop for water (mainly on day 2).
